Do You Sometimes Hear Us Laugh?

You said good bye to me

I had not quite turned twenty three

But no one had to leave

Confessions, you were never there for me

A child that once defended you with love

Who was pretending when push comes to shove?

Dad where did you go?

Sis cries to let her know

Can you remember what we look like? Do you sometimes hear us laugh?

You hide demons from your daughters

And now you have run away

Your sins may never track you down

But nightmares are surely there to stay

And maybe someone will forgive you

But I’ve lost who you are to forgive

Sad to wonder how your greying

Or even if you live

I guess she now speaks on your behalf

If you only listened to what she has said

Telling me of your new family

Insisting the other half is dead

And it wasn’t even her words

But the lies I could tell you had told

To cover up your troubled past

Your daughters had to be sold

Yes, now I look just like my mother

Both the good and the bad

And when I look in the mirror each day

It is not her mistakes that hold me sad

Mom raised me in troubled water

But it was you who let me drown

Blame me for your problems

But don’t push my head back down

Id still throw a rope and bring you back

If I thought id find more than slack

Can you remember what we look like? Do you sometimes hear us laugh?

You hide demons from your daughters

And now you have run away

Your sins may never track you down

But nightmares are surely there to stay

And maybe someone will forgive you

But I’ve lost who you are to forgive

Sad to wonder how your greying

Or even if you live

Cause we remember what you look like. We remember how you’d laugh.

  1. This is just a glimpse into what your life as a child must have been like. I am very impressed with how you and your sister have turned out! ❤
